Hurricane Isabel

Hurricane Isabel, Sept 12 2003

As of September 12, Hurricane Isabel was approaching the northern Caribbean and threatened Bermuda and the east coast of the United States.

Hurricane Isabel is huge. It is a category-5 hurricane, with winds of over 155 miles per hour. Isabel is following a track that is similar to that of Hurricane Fabian. Will Isabel hit the island of Bermuda like Fabian did? Or will it hit the east coast of the United States?

Scientists at the U.S. National Hurricane Center try to predict where these storms will go. But even the best computers and weather models have a lot of uncertainty. That means we will have to watch and see, and get up-to-the-minute predictions about this storm to know what to expect.

Visit the U.S. National Hurricane Center website at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov to learn more about hurricanes and to keep informed about Hurricane Isabel.
